At the Konferanse i Mammografiprogrammet held in Oslo on 28-29 October 2025, Professor Yan Chen was invited to deliver the “Dentist Olaf Aase and Wife Memorial Lecture”, a keynote address recognising contributions to breast cancer screening research and quality assurance. This memorial lecture series honours the legacy of Dr Olaf Aase and his spouse, whose memory continues to inspire important scientific and clinical discussion.
In her lecture, “How to Improve the Quality of a Breast Screening Programme,” Professor Chen presented evidence-based strategies for enhancing population-based screening performance including the need for robust, standardised quality assurance framework and integration of AI technologies with validated clinical pathways.
Drawing on work and research from PERFORMS and related international studies, she highlighted how human expertise, structured evaluation, and technological innovation collectively support high quality screening services.
The team also delivered a dedicated workshop led by Professor Yan Chen (University of Nottingham) and Dr Keshthra Satchithananda (King’s College Hospital). This valuable session provided participants from the Nordics and Northern Europe with hands on engagement with the PERFORMS assessment and feedback platform.
The conference provided a robust platform for scientific exchange and cross disciplinary discussion, particularly concerning AI readiness and future screening challenges. A big thank you to BreastScreen Norway for facilitating a focused and impactful forum and inviting us to participate.
